About Me

Up Close and Personal
With Penguins
and Polar Bears

I am a historian working as guide, presenter, writer and photographer. My specialist areas are the polar regions.

After receiving my Master's degree in history and film studies from the University of Zurich, I fulfilled my childhood dream by travelling to Iceland and Greenland. During this trip, I caught the notorious «polar fever». To date, I have been conducting around 100 expedition cruises and land-based journeys in the Arctic as well as the Antarctic.

My work as a photographer and writer has been published in newspapers, magazines, catalogues, calendars, books, and online. My pictures are available as fine art prints.

I am the author of «Freeze!», a user's guide for photo amateurs heading to the polar regions (published in 2010, now out-of-print) and «Auf Nordlandfahrt» which deals with one of the first cruises to Spitsbergen (published in 2018).

My home base is Zurich, Switzerland.

I am a member of the Polar Tourism Guides Association since 2017 and a certified Senior Polar Guide.
